Lack of GOOD/RARE monk rod or wand
I have been looking to buy a rod or wand for my monk for 3 weeks and I have not come across any that is better than the collector's holy rod (ener+12, max-dmg, 20%). I have accumulated gold in anticipation to buying one. (got a great ankh to use with it tho)
I have checked on rpgtrader and there are none ever mentioned. I am a monk with heal/divi/smit and also elem. I have come across a few nice wands for elem but since I want to play a full healer, I don't have any reqs to use them. If you got any for sale or have come across one, I'd like to know cause I am getting desperate and getting bored trying to get one... I feel the frequency for drops of that kind should be up'd by AN... thanks |

I don't know what the best monk staff/wand out there is at this moment, but that's a good question... I want to know what I need to aim for. I know that it will depend mainly on what role you fill in a group though (I'm healing/divine with a little smiting at the moment). What I plan on doing (and my suggestion to anyone else) is to get in a good group and explore the Underworld or other high-level areas. Of course, this depends on whether or not you can get in, so America had better have the favor of the Gods (which should always be first priority for our top competitive gamers).

Been in the UW and fissure about 25 times and never saw a rod/wand drop with Monk Reqs... I have seen a great ankh drops which I bought from one of the players, but not rod/wand.
I have seen a few good wands with fire reqs but I want to stay healing/divine/smitting... I keep looking and hoping... but I believe there is a bias for these I really dont know anyone that has better stats than the holy rods which everyone can get pretty easily from collectors. BTW I got great staffs but still the 20/20 and energy+25 health+30 of the ankh itself is hard to beat (that is without the holy rod I have already)... We must have bad luck... only drops I ever get are weapons for warriors and weapons which require X amount of Devine Prayer (Monk's)....

Yes, it would be nice to have a great rod/wand for a monk.
My monk is the same. I use a smiting rod (although i'm full healer/protector) because the smiting rod has better stats than any other that i've found. Please ArenaNet, could we have some better wands for monks? A nice healing wand to go with my healing ankh would make the times that my teammates don't wait for my energy, a little less stressful. I have 2 great divine symbols, a healing ankh and a protective icon...none go hand in hand with a smiting rod when my attributes are as aforementioned. Good topic! |

I have been actively searching similar wand too. Here is what I have found for a healing monk.
Offhand: 1) collector healing 12 energy 20/20 cast charge. (hydra claw) 2) collector healing 27 energy 30hp energy regen -1 (as a backup 15 energy pool) (griffon wing) 3) there are some 12 energy with 30hp and armor floating around, but i prefer 1). Rod collector holy rod divine based, which is useless considering no useful divine based skills. (massive jawbone i believe) After couple weeks search, I found two golden rod 1) Divine one +3 energy when hp> 50% I guess this is at least better than the divine one. 2) Divine one +19% recharge using prayer. I want something combining 1) and 2). |

Actually divine attributes dramatically increase healing skills so I am full with that.
It is good to know there may be a few rod out there. Can you let me know you character name so that we can meet so that I can have a look ? That would be greatly appreciated. thx for reply (I am getting a little more hopeful then) |

I have been trying for a couple of hours now to get a wand for my new monk lol. That's sort of surprising! I know that my guildmate had a rough time finding one too. Really too bad.
I just need SOMETHING lol. |

Oh man.
I used to be in that boat until a gold max healing rod (with +3 energy for health >50%) dropped for me. Since then I've been looking for something better - but now I think that's as good as it's going to get. I'm counting my blessings. |

This is the staff Im am currently using and i thought it was pretty nice. Besides of course just better upgrades (like higher +energy head and +health wrap) is this a pretty decent staff? How would i be better with a rod or a better staff?

Keep in mind the only thing that the req affects is the damage. If you're planning to be a full healer, attacking shouldn't even be an issue, you're not going to deal enough damage to make it worthwhile. So pop on any wand that gives you faster cast rate or faster skill recharge OR + energy. I'd advise against a +energy/-energy regen mod since it really hurts you after your mana is down to 0 in battle.

Rods have a greater capacity for energy. You can have +12 base on your offhand and even more depending on the mods on your wand and offhand. Your item is a collector item with mods (or maybe the mods were already there, I don't think they were though.) |
